On Monday, October 4, 2010, Tony Award winning actress
and Grey's Anatomy star Sara Ramirez and Emmy award winning
television personality and the evening's host Carson
Kressley, will be joined by a host of Broadway stars for an
intimate evening to celebrate Broadway Takes the Runway - an
evening of fashion and song. All proceeds from the night
will benefit the Al D. Rodriguez Liver Foundation, which
honors the close friend of Ramirez and Kressley, who was
lost to liver cancer in 2008.
An impressive cast of Broadway's brightest stars will be
performing various showtunes while donning fabulous designer
fashions all for a good cause. The line-up includes Tony
Award winning actress Sara Ramirez (Spamalot), Tony Award
nominee Montego Glover (Memphis), Tony Award nominee Robin
DeJesus (In The Heights, La Cage), Emmy Award-winner
Michael Park (As the World Turns, Little Me),
Christopher Jackson (In The Heights) and Billy Porter
(Angels in America) and Natalie Weiss (Everyday Rapture).
Audra McDonald and other special guests are scheduled to
appear. Schele Willliams is directing the show and Mary
Mitchell Campbell is musical director.
"This special evening and gathering of friends was created
in the memory of our dear friend, Al - who loved Broadway
AND a great pair of heels! We have amazing talent that will
be up close and personal in a small venue, it will truly be
a night of celebration," says Kressley.
"In addition to the celebration we have planned, this is a
very personal evening for us. We are really looking forward
to sharing our stories and memories of Al while singing
memorable Broadway songs that he loved and that we love as
well!" comments Ramirez.
Kressley and Ramirez are founding Board Members of the
organization and were inspired to create the Al D. Rodriguez
Liver Foundation to honor their dear friend, Al, who died in
2008 of liver cancer. ADRLF is a non-profit organization
committed to providing resources, education and information
related to screening, prevention and treatment for the
hepatitis virus and liver cancer. Among its many other
projects, ADRLF partners with the Actor's Fund / Al
Hirschfeld Clinic to provide free screenings for the
uninsured for hepatitis and liver cancer. 100% of the
evening's profits go to the Foundation.
The event will take place at Touch Nightclub located at 240
West 52nd Street. Doors open at 7:00pm and the show will
begin at 8:00pm. Tickets are $50 for the show and $200 for
upstairs VIP access. To buy tickets call 866-811-4111 or

This exciting event celebrates fashion and songs as only
the Broadway community can. Broadway divas and divos will
deliver their signature Broadway hits, dressed in
spectacular couture gowns and suits, personally chosen for
each star by Carson.

Hang Out with the Cool Kids

If you’d like to hang out in a giant room filled with
local theatre people…and a local boy turned soap star,
Rochester’s 4th Annual
Break A Leg
party at the German House
is the place. Always held the first Monday after Labor
Day, this year’s event is Monday, Sept. 13 at 7
pm.
“Break a Leg!” is a community-wide
party for Rochester theaters to celebrate the upcoming
season. Shows and auditions will be announced, cocktails
will be consumed; connections will be made; old friends
will catch up; and new friends will be made.
The evening will also feature the presentation of the
4th Annual City Newspaper Spirit Award to
Michael Park, an award bestowed upon a
Rochester native who has made a career in theatre.
Park started his acting career on several Rochester
stages, including Blackfriars and JCC
CenterStage. Michael and I played the title
roles in Androcles and The Lion
for the inaugural production of Rochester
Children’s Theatre.
This was just before Michael left Rochester for
NYC. I’m looking forward to seeing my old stage partner
back in Rochester. (He became more famous, but I still
have all my real hair. Just kidding. Michael always
looks great.)
Park appeared on Broadway and off-Broadway in
Smokey Joe’s Café, Carousel, and
Little Me. In June 2010, he earned
a Daytime Emmy Award for
“Outstanding Lead Actor” for his portrayal of
Jack Snyder in As the World Turns, which he played for
13 years.
Live music will be provided by the
David Labman Trio, in addition to songs
performed by Park and a song written and directed by
Mark Dewaters to be performed by local singers. Proceeds
from tickets sales and an on-site silent auction will
benefit Artists Unlimited, a theatre
program for individuals with special needs. Tickets are
$15 in advance/$20 at the door. To purchase advance
tickets, please call (585) 381-9181.
